MAC Lipstick in Dark Side- Quick Review + tons of photos!

MAC Lipstick Dark Side

MAC Lipstick Dark side review

Can we just cut the chase, drop the formalities and get straight to business? You see I'm a lil' time deficient this week & a good following weeks too but I need to show my new MAC lipstick & my half baked attempt with a new eye look. It is far from what I imagined but its okay. We shall get there soon.

MAC Magic of the Night Collection 2015

I received MAC lipstick in Dark Side from MAC cosmetics NZ a few weeks ago. Now this is a permanent shade already but it has been released in limited edition metallic purple packaging as part of MAC's Magic of the Night Holiday Collection 2015. Yep! I know. BEAUTIFUL.

Savar Rosehip Ultra Brightening Serum Review

Savar Rosehip Ultra Brightening Serum

One of the best joys of blogging- discovering products that you would have never tried otherwise. Despite what a reader perceives, a rosy job with free products, blogging is far from it. Its more of a no weekends, no free time, no reading books, assaulting precious skin & body with plethora of new ingredients and spending every non-day-job-hour thinking or executing blogging. This is just me, the slack blogger who pretty much manages to churn just one blog post a week. Imagine the time it takes for other part time bloggers that post regularly. Shudders**

But the only thing that keeps our lot going is comments from readers (please post them even if you'd like to say hey!), sometimes a surprise Facebook share or bumping into some star product that make the skin assault worth it! You know where this is going right? I've just bumped into one.

Savar face serum review

Now you don't have to take my word for it because lets be honest something like a skin brightening effect can be very subjective. You feel good, you feel you look good. You get it? My mood decides how I look. Somedays I wouldn't feel beautiful even after caking on layers and layers of Foundation. Somedays I'd feel gorgeous as soon as I get up. Its all in the hormones. So don't take my word for it.

theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter Review!

theBalm Mary lou manizer review

If you ask me my favorite thing about makeup- it'll be a tie between Lipstick and Highlighter. Ok.. I'm a wee bit obsessed with contouring too. But seriously Highlighting is Life! From plain jane to a Diva in 10 seconds. Yes!! a DIVA..that's how I feel after highlighting my face. I'm a lot humble usually but seriously this is the only word that explains my state of confidence after a few strokes of this magic powder.

Now, there are myriad lipsticks..100's of them..different colors..different finishes and different looks but leave me on an island and the only highlighter I'd ever need is theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer. I've had it for years (3 maybe?) and believe me this is a recent photo. I haven't even scratched the surface yet. I firmly believe this highlighter will last me a lifetime.

theBalm Mary lou manizer highlighter

theBalm highlighter review

I do not highlight everyday but it's a must-do for any special occasion makeup. Indian Weddings top the list, specially the night ones. Oh my my! the way camera captures it truly drives me mad. I've lost it right? But seriously if you can buy one highlighter in this life..make it Mary-Lou Manizer.

Oasis Beauty Cream Cleanser Review!

Oasis beauty cream cleanser Reviews

If you've read last few posts on the blog, you'd know my skin and hair aren't doing their very best at the moment. You see there's no winning. When your body looks good, your skin, hair n nails suffer and when the peripherals are doing great, there's no confidence in body. I'm not complaining. Because you can fake good skin but how would you fake a good body? Confused much?
I've been working out for past few months, you know doing some sweaty stuff. Lets just say its working well for my body but its come at the expense of my skin (So frickkin dry- Blame swimming), Hair (Split ends, lifeless, sad- Blame swimming, crossfit, no oiling, extreme lack of time), Nails (that skin around nails peeling and sore. Blame swimming, pull ups). So yes..its just not my day butttt I'm not complaining. Its all part of the package called Life. Shizz happens.

best cream cleanser for dry skin

On a positive note, I've been making a conscious effort to up my skincare game and be gentle with my skin, as much as I can. Enter oils, cream cleansers, floral toners, hydrating masks. And there's this particular cream cleanser that I won off an Instagram giveaway many moons ago that's been an absolute delight to use.

Diwali 2015 Makeup look featuring MAC's Limited Edition Colordrenched Pigment in 'Ascent of Glamour'

MAC magic of the night collection

My favorite time of the year is here. Its Diwali time. Time to gorge on Gulab Jamuns, Samosas and lots of Paneer! Its practically the fattening season :p We'll be visiting friends and family on Diwali day (This Wednesday, Nov 11th). Lamps, candles and diyas will be lighted. I've already burned my share of crackers this past weekend for Guy Fawkes so that's been taken care of. So much fun.

If I was in India, we'd be having Diwali Holidays too but alas its NZ and we've gotta work. Like seriously can you imagine working all day on Christmas and then having the feast with family in the evening? So cruel.

MAC Studio Waterweight SPF 30 Foundation in NC30 Review

MAC waterweight foundation NC 30 review

MAC doesn't come out with a new foundation very often so when it does, the whole beauty fraternity takes note. Recently, MAC Cosmetics has added a new foundation to their Studio line- its the much talked about Studio Waterweight Foundation*. With this new release, MAC has tapped into the current trend of weightless serum-gel foundations that impart super natural skin-like finish.

MAC studio waterweight spf 30 foundation review

I have been testing this foundation for over a month, everyday and I finally have my thoughts gathered. Trust me to take uncomfortably long to form an opinion on a product.

Lipidol Overnight Face Oil Review!

Are you on the oil bandwagon yet? No? Why not? Well, its no secret I've been on that train for a wee while now, I think it was the Trilogy Rosehip Oil that started it, I then moved onto Life Flo Rosehip Oil (Fraction of a price to Trilogy), then went on to try the antioxidant rich oil from superfood Chia seeds The Goodness Lab's Organic Chia Seed Oil, came back to Life Flo Rosehip Oil and now currently been using this Lipidol Overnight Face Oil*. Let's see what oil catches my fancy next!

Remington Revitalise Facial Cleansing Brush Review!

Remington Revitalise facial cleansing brush review

My life summarized in 2 sentences- I love makeup, I hate taking it off!
Oh! Might I add a third one- I have an OCD with taking makeup off. Get me hella drunk and I'd still be in the washroom trying to get every bit of it off my face before the slump. We girls have an ironic life, spending 2 hours making up a face and another half taking it off. I literally need half an hour to clean my face after a full face of makeup. Like on the clock half an hour!
a. Take makeup off with makeup remover- TWICE
b. Use a cream cleanser to dissolve any that's left
c. Use a foaming cleanser to get that squeaky clean feel
d. Wash, dry
e. Apply Toner, eye cream, serum, facial oil. Hit bed. Hand cream, foot cream, goes on..

So yes I need a magic wand to speed things up. And naturally I've always been intrigued by facial cleansing brushes- Clarisonic Mia, Mirenesse and the likes. So when Remington's PR company approached me to see if their cleansing brush would interest me.. I sent them a big fat YES.

Did you even know Remington does a cleansing brush? I didn't.

Remington Revitalise cleansing brush review

So it arrived a few weeks ago and I tore up the package all excited. This beautiful mint colored gadget is actually a beauty. Sleek, pretty and ergonomic. The Revitalise Facial Cleansing Brush system comes with 3 removable brush heads- Normal, Sensitive and Massage, so you can customize it to your skin needs. All 3 brush heads have their own clear protective caps too.The package also comes with a very pretty white beauty bag (so perfect for makeup brushes!) and a charging stand.

Savar Ultra Cleansing Shampoo & Ultra Nourishing Conditioner Review

My favorite Shampoo meet the world. World meet my favorite shampoo. Yes! I have found my Holy Grail ..yet again! Seems like I'm having a good run with shampoo's.
Wishing I had a good run with my hair too coz at the moment, they are a hot mess. Pretty much the worst they have ever been (in capitals). And there's no one to blame but myself.

So, my hair grow damn slow (2 inches a year!) and I need length. I NEED a good length for my upcoming holiday. So I've not had a hair cut in yonks (I'm not gonna tell you how long it's been..It's rather embarrassing. Any guesses?). There's split ends, there's dry ends, there's awkward lengths and there's more thickness than I can handle, there's flatness that comes with heaviness, there's hair fall and then there's bleach laden swimming pool, sweaty Crossfit floors and my laziness. All this against my poor hair. Writing this makes me feel a lil sad for them.. Tough life!
So when I say a shampoo has been working for me, you've gotta trust me. Surely, a shampoo won't fix split ends but it can make them less bushy.

MAC Lipstick in Flat Out Fabulous- Review + FOTD + LOTD

If you're looking flat and want to look fabulous..reach out for 'Flat Out Fabulous' ! Cheesy I know but holds true for this lipstick. It can totally transform your face. This demands attention and gets you compliments.

MAC's Flat Out Fabulous is a stunning plummy pink lipstick. Its bright, bold and opaque! It's Ruby Woo and All Fired Up's cousin. They are all from the same family actually- Retro Matte!
Yep.That dreaded matte formula. It's THE ultimate matte. Yes its drying but its workable. And its loooong wearing which makes it so worth it.

The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Body Scrub Review!

The body shop fuji green tea body scrub

As you know I'm quite a fan of The Body Shop scrubs, my favorite being their Blueberry Body Scrub. When Jasmeen (THE JASMEEN SINGH MAKEUP ARTIST!!) gifted me a bag full of beauty goodies, I was most excited seeing this scrub. Ok. A lil more for them snail masks too! (Here's the picture of all the goodness I was gifted). She's so kind!
But seriously why is it always the dumb me who shows up on a first meet without any gift? It's happened far too many times now and has gotten to the point where it's both embarrassing and hilarious. I can barely get out of bed and show up for morning coffee (may I add in PJ's and no makeup whatsoever) and this chic is all glam and ready to roll at 8 am on a Saturday Morning? Like seriously how? Take a bow girl!

TBS fuji green tea body scrub review

Now, I don't know if Green tea ever smelled this amazing (pun intended!) but this latest release from The Body Shop is the bees knees. The Body Shop Fuji Green Tea Scrub is my new found love. Its beautiful, its gentle, its effective and its refreshing. It's unlike any other body scrub I've ever used.

August/September 2015 Empties!

Yes its my usual one liner again! Can you believe its October already? Like seriously there's only 3 more months till 2016. I feel like I've only just warmed up to 2015. I've only just stopped crossing off 2014 for 2015 when I date a document at work. As much as I can't wait for end of this year (and upcoming holiday plans!)..time's seriously running too fast for my liking. Anyways, I can go on about it all day..

Today, I'm writing about the products I've finished in last 2 months. Let's get to business..shall we?

1. By Nature Pink Grapefruit & Argan Oil Body Lotion - I've written about another version of this lotion in my previous empties post. It was the Pomegranate & Argan Oil one, here. While I wasn't a fan of the Pomegranate one's scent (it was so off), I actually really liked this Grapefruit one. It smells so fruity and fresh. The lotion is fairly natural too..with no Parabens and other nasties. Its really light and fit for summers, absorbs fast and is non-sticky. At $5 for 500 ml from The Warehouse, it's definitely a bargain.

I'm currently using St. Ives Vitamin E hydrating lotion and quite liking it, so I have no plans to buy this next but you never know. For the price, it didn't disappoint.

Oilcraft Naturals Premium Panch-Pushp Water Review!

Oilcraft Naturals Panch Pushp water

So ya'll know how I'm absolutely addicted to natural toners..specifically floral waters. I have an unhealthy obsession with them if I may say so. I have to have a few spritz on each day or my day doesn't conclude.

Rose Water has always been my first choice. I've tried so many Indian brands in search of my perfect potion. If you have dry skin or any skin type in general, Pure Rose Water is the best natural toner money can buy. I have previously written about Forest Essentials Rose Water Facial Toner, Kama Ayurveda Pure Rose Water, FabIndia Rose Water and Oilcraft Naturals Premium Rose Water.

I've recently discovered another gem- Panch Pushp Water. Its an ancient Ayurvedic Formulation. In hindi, Panch = 5, Pushp = Flowers. So this is literally steam distillate of 5  native Indian flowers, that are known for their skincare properties.

Mogra (Arabian Jasmine) for Hydration
Rose for Toning
Saffron for Healing
Kewara (Pandanus Flower) for Cooling & Softening
Marigold for Cleansing

Garba/Navratri Makeup! Feat. Green Smoky Eye

Smoky Green Eye

If you follow me on Facebook and Instagram, you know this already, coz I make big deal out of everything! This weekend I went for my first ever Garba. I got given two outfits from a Gujrati friend and couldn't decide between them so posted a photo on my social media. The response was insane. Everyone had different opinions but I really really loved the community feel. It felt like we were all real friends discussing outfit before a big night. (Here's the photo on Facebook and Insta btw). If you were one of those who commented- THANK YOU! from the bottom of my heart. Thank you leaving a line. It surely made my day!

So because there was quite an interest on the post, I posted some hazy makeup shots once I was done caking my face. And you guys blew my mind again. I was about to get picked up but then it got delayed and there was still some light outside. Out comes the DSLR! It never happens. Its rare for me to actually have time to click pictures. I'm usually the one who remembers mascara on reaching the venue. There's always something or the other that misses out.

LipsnBerries Makeover Series Vol 3- Teaching squats to your Personal Trainer!

Easy indian wedding makeup NC42

So I was reciting this incident to a friend I was doing makeup on..and she came up with this analogy. I told her how I did makeup on this beautiful girl and a very pro beauty blogger Renji (from Makeupholic World) and I seriously didn't know shiz! I applied makeup on her with my shaky hands and naive techniques. And then my subject blurts "It's like teaching squats to Neil" (Neil = our Crossfit trainer) and it hit me... Yes! Its exactly like that. An apprentice teaching the master the tools of the trade.

Indian wedding makeup NC 42

However, it was so enlightening! She patiently gave me tips and tricks. That time I ruined the eye liner and we had to take the whole eye makeup off..she had a smile on. Like how? And then when I got the eye-makeup right, I ruined the under eye with eyeshadow fall outs. So we (read SHE!) had to do the whole concealer routine again. While we're at it, lets just mention that she is THE concealer queen. Renji has sussed out her routine so well..it's impeccable. In all honesty, I hardly did a thing on her face and she ended up looking stunning! I'm not doing my usual before and after so please excuse that. Lets just say my photography skills were below par in the before pics so I'm gonna skip on them this one time! But can we just stare at the after please? Coz I'm in love with her dusky skin. Its EXOTIC!

MAC Vamplify Collection! 'Speed Up' & 'How Chic is This?' Lip Glosses Reviewed!

Lets gets this straight..I'm not a Gloss girl! I'm all about lipsticks and Matte in that. Retro Matte perhaps! I have a sizable lip collection and you'd hardly find a gloss in there. So when MAC sent me these new babies..my first reaction- Squeals! Who wouldn't?
Second- Eeeep it's a lip gloss.

MAC Vamplify Collection reviews

I swear when I first saw them I thought they were that liquid to matte formula. You know like Lime Crime Velvetines! But they weren't. They were straight up pigmented lip glosses.
Quite a grim introduction right? Hold on I'm building a scenario here!!.. coz OMGee! I'm in loooove with them. Yes! in love with a Lip Gloss. Ok not so much with the pale pink one but the purple one is a total must have.

MAC Vamplify Lip gloss reviews

MAC is killing it with limited edition collection this year (Who can forget the pretty packaging of Giambattista Valli Lipsticks?). Next one in line is MAC Vamplify Collection- A Collection of 17 ultra pigmented lip glosses ($48 NZD, Limited Edition) and 12 new shades of Pro Longwear Lip Pencils ($50 NZD, New Permanent Shades) to match them. How crazy insane right? The Collection is coming into stores September 21st,2015. Be ready!

Sleek MakeUP True Color Lipstick in 'Candy Cane'! A dupe for MAC Party Parrot & Impassioned?

My dearest Renji from Makeupholic World gifted me a lipstick when we first met. I tried it on 2 week later! Its a blogger thing..Don't put lipstick on until its photographed !!And I instantly regret the 2 weeks wasted. This is easily my best lipstick shade to date. And I have a fair bit to be honest! Then someone suggested it's a dupe of MAC's Party Parrot lipstick. THE ICONIC PARTY PARROT!! The Limited Edition lipstick that comes and goes and has everyone in hysterics! When will MAC make it permanent?

Sleek true color lipstick candy cane review

Anyways, I don't own party parrot to compare them both but nevertheless Sleek Candy Cane wants me to go crazy when Party Parrot releases next. Such a stunning pink! Looks beautiful bright pinky coral during day and warm coral in night light on my NC 32-ish skintone. Its more like a mash of red, coral and pink! And bright..so so bright! And its pretty hard to photograph too.

Sleek lipstick in Candy Cane

A perfect shade for spring/summer! Glossy but doesn't stay that way after a few hours. It stains heavily. My lips stay pink till next day even after exfoliating them with bubblegum lip scrub. You know it's stubborn when next morning flatmate asks if you slept with makeup on. Hell no!!

LipsnBerries Makeovers Series Vol 2 - When All's Fired Up!

Dodgy name I know but I couldn't come up with any tagline for this look! Maybe you can help me?
Oh! Here's Vol 1 in case you're wondering!

Introducing another pretty chic on the blog today, Our subject number 2, Miss S! So Miss S has never ever had a full makeover done. She is passionate about skincare and you'd definitely get jealous of her flawless natural skin. I certainly am! She's getting into makeup slowly and is absolutely loving bright lipsticks at the moment. Hence the look. I didn't want to pile up a lot on her face as its her first time but actually intended make her look naturally beautiful- dewy skin, neutral eyes and Hot Pink lips courtesy MAC All Fired Up Lipstick, which is one of my favorite lipstick for Indian skin. Guess who's buying one soon? She adored the lipstick.

OPI Brights Collection 2015!

A nail post after yonks!
So one fine day, I won an Instagram Giveaway. I don't enter many so it was definitely a surprise. I tend to enter the ones that don't ask me to repost a pic. Don't want the world to know how much I love freebies ;)

OPI brights collection 2015

Anyways, the talented and beautiful youtuber Giovanna from NZ ran OPI giveaway on Insta and lucky me won 5 shades from OPI Brights Collection 2015. Then the lazy me puts on one nail paint a week and clicks a picture (Hence the different lighting in each photo!). 7 weeks later here's the post (2 weeks to write a few words!)
I have 2 coats of polish on in all the photos.

The shades I received were-

1. OPI On Pinks & Needles- Pink hexagonal and round chunks in a clear base. Very pretty! Except that pink loses color and turns white after a day or two.
I've put it on my weary Artdeco Art Couture Nail Lacquer in the shade 776- Couture Red Oxide. Its completely spruced up my week old polish. I wish it lasted long though.

Is there any running away from Eve-Teasing?

Picture this!
I'm walking home alone through a well lit street at 6:30 pm. Its not late but its dark coz its winters here in NZ.There's hardly anyone on the street. Its not a flash suburb, so I have my phone and belongings tucked in back pack. I'm too scared to lose them. No music for me either..I like to be in the moment to feel safe! Its only a 7 minute walk to where my friend is waiting for me.

I'm coming back home from Crossfit. So I have bright tights, a hoodie and humongous running shoes on! Tired as hell from a killer workout. I look average- No makeup, no skin show, plain jane!

I hear a faint sound of someone talking in a shop few feets away. Oh! Its that Indian shop!
Oh! Someone's talking in Punjabi. Suddenly, the world around feels safer. Its my people. I'd be all right. I pass that shop and there's someone waving farewells to the shop-owner and I pass him just as he's about to get out of the shop and into his car. Car parked right outside the shop.

Two steps past the shop, I hear...
Yo babe..Looking hot there! Sup?? I can drop you home. Come..I can drop you home!

All this in my mother tongue. I can't believe it. Its a mature man..looks 35ish. He must be talking to someone in his car. It can't be me. I turn back. Its me! and suddenly I regret turning back!

My hearts racing and my mind goes blank. I can't think of anything. My phone is in the back pack and I can't even muster the courage to stop and take it out. I want to call *111 ..I really want to. But I have no idea why I'm not doing it. He sees my changing expressions. I'm clearly pissed but he takes it a yes and stops his car on the other side of the road and says something. I can't hear him well. All this while I'm walking with hardly anyone in the street. It's a maroon Mazda that I didn't even think to take the number of! Why o why? I don't know!

After 6.5 years in NZ, I've been eve teased for the first time. And suddenly this land that I call my home makes me feel sick to the stomach. Wasn't this the reason why I loved NZ over India? Wasn't it my safe haven? How many times did I come back from holiday back home and felt that relief of not being constantly watched, constantly alert and constantly judged! This is why I called it home. And to have one of my own people shatter my world ..its made me uneasy. Very uneasy!

Things I wanted to do-
- Stop him. Slap him.
- Dial 111 and report him.
- Abuse him. Answer him back.
- Sit with him and ask him WHY? I want to know his background. Why does he not respect the other gender? How does he have such audacity? Why no fear? This mature man...who was laughing and talking animatedly to the shop guy..like normal men do and suddenly seconds later ..he's hitting on a girl. Like its instantaneous. Like the switch comes natural to him! Like he's done this many times before. Like he's a repeat offender.

What I actually do-
- NOTHING! A big fat nothing. My mind gave away, Adrenaline rushed in all directions. I feel useless!

And what do I do few minutes later when I'm back to the safety of my own men...I feel angry. I feel angry at myself. I could have taught him a memorable lesson. I could've broken his pattern. I could've saved some other girl from this ordeal. But alas he got away one more time!

I feel amazed at myself. Haven't I dealt with this countless times before. Wasn't it a norm back home? Eve-teasing, stalking, groping..I've had it all then why just a few words by one Punjabi man shattered me to the core? Was my belief in men shattered again? Is NZ not my safe haven anymore?

I'm all about positivism and as I write I'm thinking of countless amazing men I know. They care for me..they love me. I'm a wife of an amazing man who lets me dream and run free. But then why am I questioning the whole male race? Again!

An angry one today!

Linden leaves gold body oil

Linden Leaves is a premier natural brand from New Zealand. This year they are celebrating 20 years of crafting quality natural skincare by launching a Gold Range! The collection consists of a Gold Body Wash, Body Lotion, Toning Face & Body Mist, Body Oil and Shimmer Mousse.

Bloggers were invited to the launch event and believe me ...we were served cocktails that had 23 kt Gold leaf in it! They were so amazing and heady! I hardly ever drink..like once in 3 years so I tend to get dizzy in just a few sips. I wish I didn't had to drive back home. I never wanted to stop drinking gold!

LipsnBerries Makeover Series Vol 1 - Humble Beginnings

Here's to the humble beginnings! Thank you so much to everyone who responded with a big fat Yesss to my Facebook Post asking if anyone out there would be keen on the makeup practice/make over sessions that I've been doing recently. You guys gave me a real boost and this series is out only coz of you few. So a heartfelt Thank You :)

In all honesty I did get a bit scared of the overwhelming response. I don't wanna let anyone down but just to make things clear, I'm not a Pro.. I'm planets away from that!! But I've been consciously making an effort to improve my makeup skills. I have some upcoming weddings where I might need to use some skills. Being a beauty blogger, my capabilities have been over-estimated and I've been delegated some vanity responsibilities and I'm shit scared. So these are more like practice sessions. I'm looking for a some constructive criticism. I need your expert help! So feel free to speak your heart out .. but lets just keep the negativity out. I need all the encouragement and support not other way around please :)

Disclaimers out of the way! Lets Start!

This is look one! It was totally unexpected and I never planned to do a blog post about it. Heck I didn't even plan for a whole series but... You gotta go with the flow right? These pictures were taken on the phone (something I'm not a fan of personally!) but I'm posting these to document my makeup journey. And hence the name 'Humble Beginnings' for this look!
