Goodness Natural Beauty Lab's Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil Review!

4 June 2015

Considering the oil junkie that I am, I was bound to run into another skincare goodie.. Chia Seed Oil! Yep..You've heard it right! Taking 'If you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin' adage to a whole new level.

Goodness Chia seed oil review

Chia Seeds are considered one of the best natural sources of Omega 3 (Alpha-Linolenic Acid), Omega 6 (Linolenic Acid) and Omega 9 (Oleic Acid, Think: Rich n heavy, perfect for dry skin). That info clearly for the fellow Biochemistry nerds out there (Hi5!!). In other words, these tiny ancient seeds are brim full of Essential Fatty Acids (The ones that our body doesn't make on its own, we gotta acquire them from external sources aka Food). The nutrient density makes consuming a hand full of Chia seeds better than gorging tubs of blueberries.

Folks at Goodness Labs have extracted this rich oil and put it in a bottle as skincare elixir. Theoretically these fatty acids should be anti-inflammatory, hydrating and healing which should lead to bright plump hydrated skin!

Here's my experience with Goodness Labs Organic Chia seed Oil

- The oil is completely natural, no nasties!
- Goodness Labs Chia Seed Oil is Certified Organic and Cold Pressed.
- It has been made right here in New Zealand (Trilogy is the parent company! Remember Trilogy Rosehip Oil?)
- It is a very light amber colored oil with slightly medicinal smell.
- Chia seed oil has a balance of Omega 3 and 6 in the ratio of 3:1, which ensures optimum skin nourishment.
- The second ingredient in this oil is Meadowfoam oil which has a very long shelf life so it acts like a good natural preservative. This oil should give Chia seed oil stability, lubricity and ability to stay on the skin (I've researched well..hah!).
- I've found the mix relatively good for my dry skin. I've had no dry skin patches whatsoever.
- The oil is way lighter than my absolute favorite Life Flo Rosehip Oil. It feels almost like a serum- Silky!
- It absorbs faster than Rosehip Oil as well.
- I've been using this oil religiously every night for over a month now and have had no adverse reaction. Though I've gotta admit, I haven't noticed any miraculous change in my skin either. More so because I've been using Rosehip Oil for over an year prior to this, which has already cleared up my skin. I do not have any noticeable scars on face anymore so couldn't vouch if this oil fared any better.
- I have dry skin, so the oil absorbed fine. Because its so light, seems like it should be ok for oily skin as well (Don't quote me on this!). The oil can be mixed with foundation or your favorite moisturizer for an extra moisture boost.
- I've found the oil to absorb better on slightly damp skin. I spritz my face with toner (Oilcraft Premium Rosewater), let the toner sink in for about 2 minutes and then follow with Chia seed oil on face and neck.
- My eyes haven't reacted very well to it. The only two times I used it as an all over facial moisturizer (Eyes, brows everywhere!), sunshine asked me whats wrong with my eyes the next morning. They were puffy.
- I have noticed slightly uneven skin on my forehead lately but I've been unable to conclude if its this oil or Garnier Micellar Water or just changing weather. Rosehip Oil had my skin in the best state.

Verdict:
I have to admit it was hard to part ways from my favorite Rosehip Oil for a month. Goodness Labs Certified Organic Chia Seed Oil is chock full of nutrients (Essential Fatty Acids, Anti-oxidants!) for a healthy plump skin. The oil is very thin, almost serum like and absorbs fast. My dry skin drinks it up. However, lately my skin has started acting up..a bit of uneven skin on forehead and I can't exactly pin point if its the over-use of this oil or my current makeup remover. It hasn't fared well with my eyes too. So best to avoid on eyes.
In saying that, every person's skin has a different make. My skin seems to behave better with Rosehip Oil and I will be going back to it. If you have been looking for a light and natural oil for your skin, give this a shot! The powerful blend of Omega 3 and 6 might just be your skincare elixir! Who knows?
