Christmas Gift Guide - 2018 Edition

18 December 2018

Went for an impromptu break to Palmerston North and ended up staying there a few extra days with family, so my annual Christmas gift guide is a little late than usual. I wish I had all these products on me there so I could take pictures and publish this post. Because in-laws were there to take care of the baby and I had time. Back to the daily grind and I'm currently working on this write-up post-midnight after the baby has dozed off for the night. Wouldn't do it if I didn't enjoy it though.

This year, I've discovered a lot of new brands, specially skincare so this post will reflect that. A new skincare regime is truly the best gift, provided you know the skin type of your loved one. I also continue to support local nz brands and businesses, with a special interest in natural & environmentally consious products.

Here's my picks on the best of this holiday season gifts-

1. Oh Natural Online Store- What a treasure trove! I've been fortunate enough to be working with Oh Natural this year and my mind is truly blown by the length & breadth of natural and eco-conscious products this website stocks. From beauty to makeup to haircare to household stuff to smoothie blends to even mum n bub stuff. Their website has it all. I've discovered so many unique NZ brands this year, all thanks to Oh Natural. The website does a Conscious Beauty Edit box each month which is such a great way to try out natural products. These boxes make a perfect gift too. Not only that, Oh Natural can curate surprise gift boxes too, from any amount to $200. Just leave your hints/ideas/expectations in the comment box. Easy as that! Of corse they do the standard gift voucher option too.

The picture above shows only fraction of brands that Oh Natural stocks. You can pretty much shop for any of your need, in a natural way, be it metal straws or natural deodorant or derma roller or kids friendly makeup or stainless steel clothing pegs. Sometimes I just browse their website for aesthetics. The photo styling, color schemes and products, are all right up my alley.
If you are looking to gift your loved ones something that's good for them and also the environment, consider shopping from Oh Natural website.

2. Karen Murrell Lipstick sets- KM lipsticks featured in my last year's gift guide too. They aren't NZ's best exports for no reason. My mum is a fan of their lipsticks and these are my gift to her everytime I go back home.
This holiday season KM is doing personalised lipstick canisters, where you can have your lipstick hand painted by celebrated NZ calligraphist, Emma Pearce-Hagen on Dec 21, 22, 23 at DFS Custom Street, Auckland. Not only that when you buy 2 lipsticks, you get a third one free at their pop-up counter.

Pictured below is their 3 lipstick set, which retails for $78 NZD and has 3 of their bestseller shades, in limited edition luxe gold packaging- Violet Mousse, Coral Dawn and Rumba Rhythm. They even do a 2-piece set for $56. These lipstick sets are available at their stockists nationwide.

This is such a gorgeous gift for the lady in your life. A gift of natural, nasties-free lipsticks, that actually pack a lot of punch.

3. Nude by Nature Gift sets- Nude by Nature is an Australian brand that makes beautiful, natural and cruelty-free, mineral makeup. It's makeup that's good for you. Subtle wash of color and natural finish is signature mineral makeup look. This holiday season Nude by Nature has come out with some stunning 'ready-to-gift' sets, packaged in a makeup case (with even a gift tag on it, you know that 'to' & 'from' thingy too!).

Pictured below is the Nude by Nature Delight Good for you Complexion Collection. This set is valued at $159.55 and is available for $59.99 only. Wait till you see what's in it- natural mineral cover (powder foundation), mineral concealer, mineral primer, finishing veil, bronzer, highlight stick, mineral brush and a rose gold compact mirror. All the products are travel sized. The rose gold accents are so stunning and so is the white cosmetic bag they come in.

There's lot of different kits available- brush set, eye collection set, etc so you can have a pick. I'm surely keeping this kit for myself as its so beautiful. I've used mineral makeup before and I love how quick and effortless it is, something I've come to appreciate more since being a mom. These makeup sets are available in selected stores (Farmers, Amcal, Unichem, Life Pharmacy, etc) and online.

4. Holiday Glow Collection from Wet 'n Wild- Turn on the shine this summer season and prepare to dazzle with the Wet 'n Wild Holiday Glow Collection. This suite of limited edition beauty essentials will see you turning heads as you make your way through end of year festivities and social occasions, looking luminous and fresh.

The holiday glow collection features 2 color icon loose pigments in Carol and Noel (the names though!). These versatile pigments can be used on your face, eyes and body.
In the collection are 3 MegaGlo highlighting bars in gold, rose-gold and platinum. The highlighter packaging also features a sneaky mirror!
The 4 x Catsuit metallic eyeshadows are super sparkly and impart colours without weighing down the eyelids.
The collection also features 4 x Catsuit lipsticks, my favorite liquid matte lipstick formula, in metallic finishes. So festive!

Wet 'n Wild brand is cruelty free, affordable and their proucts are actually good value for money. You can check out this holiday edition collection and more Wet 'n Wild products at selected Farmers NZ stores. They'll make awesome stocking stuffers too.

5. Skincare Sets- Plantae Certified Organic Skincare, Fernz Natural Skincare, Savar Skincare

You know how much I love skincare. I'm lucky enough to work with some amazing homegrown NZ skincare brands. Honestly, we are spoilt for choice here in NZ, there is a natural altrenative to any skincare product you'd fancy.

I went gaga for Plantae skincare last month. I switched to exclusive Plantae skincare for a few months and then posted a review of the 6-7 products I used from their line. They were love! So this Plantae Essentials Kit with their minis is totally going to be my pick for gifting to your loved ones. It's got 5 of their bestsellers in travel size packaging, that's all the skincare on plane sorted. The products come in a beautifully illustrated Plantae pouch. These Plantae products have been handpicked to suit all skin types. This set is available for $39.90 on Plantae website.

Another great skincare set is this Fernz Skincare Starter Kit. I firmly believe in my Cleanse, Tone , Mositurise routine. It's probably been the only constant in my life for the past decade. This skincare set reinforces my belief in a good CTM routine. This starter set has a good quantity of Fernz Firming Face Cleanser, Soothing Toner and Lotion, packed nicely in an attractive box, for $45.90. Infact, this is what I'm actually gifing my mum. Firming and Soothing sound like something she'd appreciate.

Savar Skincare- I've been a Savar Skincare fan since way back and I still reckon nothing can beat their Instant Boost Multi Toner for dry skin. I mean NOTHING (in capitals!). So I'm the happiest kid to see that this season they have a gift set that has Buy 2, Get 1 toner free. Such a steal! Totally a gift for me, if any loved one is reading this. Savar has many other skincare sets to suit various budgets. Pictured is one of the many Savar skincare sets. Savar is available online from their website savaronline.com and selected stockists nationwide.

6. Remington Volume Straightening Brush- I always include a gadget in my gift guide series, no different this year. This newest offering from Remington is 3-in-1. This unique new tool combines the benefits of a straightner, straightening brush and curling tong in one. It smooths, adds volume to the roots and flicks at the tips to provide perfect blow-dried look. It also has an anti-static coating to achieve frizz-free styles. Perfect gift for the fashionista in your life. This straightening brush retails for $119.99 but I see it listed for half that price at Briscoes NZ website. Good deal indeed!

This wraps up my Christmas gift guide for 2018. I'm sure you guys are proactive and have already sorted your gifts. So let this be a last minute gift guide. In any case, it's the love and thought behind the gift that counts & I hope you recieve truck loads of love with your friends and family.

It's a special one for us as it's Aiza's first Christmas. I have tiny living tree for her, which will hopefully grow with her. We are looking forward to some day offs and spending quality family time together.

Sending my love & good wishes
Nishu
