Eid 2016 Makeup Look- Blue Eyes, Red Lips + Some life lessons from my mum!

Blue smoky eye makeup

They say "Once it's on the internet ..its forever". This is exactly what I'm trying to do today. I'm wearing my mum's 25 year old outfit (circa 1991), I think it looks stunning and its Eid this week so why not right?

I posted a no makeup picture with this outfit on my Instagram last week . It seemed to be a hit! The outfit fits me like a glove.. literally! I actually needed a girlfriend to help me out of it. I was too scared to wear it again. It will be heartbreaking to wreck something so precious..but I just couldn't help myself from donning it again. I felt like I needed to go all out with this one and here's it again...in full glory. And now I'm content. I'm at peace. How often do you wear your mum's outfit ? Not often right? So why not do the whole shebang when you do.

It's Eid this week too. To all my Muslim friends & readers..EID MUBARAK :) I hope you have a blissful time with friends n family. I have many Muslim friends so I can't wait to visit their homes this week for a yummy feast. Honestly, they are one of the kindest people we know! Hey Rafia :p

Here's the look details -
The outfit is a bright blue pure silk shirt & pants with subtle gold motifs all over it. The dots/ motifs have blackened with age. Mum tells me she got this one made for my aunty's wedding (Dad's sister).
I've put on gold Punjabi style jewellery to go with it-A Tikka (headpiece) and matching earrings (hidden in my hair). Thanks Pawan!

Zoeva Love is a story palette review

For makeup, I wanted to do a subtle blue eye with a deep red lip but obviously got carried away . So here's me breaking the cardinal rule of makeup - bold eyes & bold lips & I 100% love it. It screams festivity to me. This is how I'll go to an Indian wedding. Because YOLO :p

Obviously the star of the look is the bright blue Turquoise-y eyeshadow called 'Ladylike' from Zoeva Love is a Story eyeshadow palette. I love this palette! You can create so many colorful looks with this one and the quality of eyeshadows is just next level.
The next thing you'd notice is the red lip. Its a classic..ain't it? I lined my lips with a red lip liner called 'True Red' from Faces Cosmetics and then followed it with my dearest Ruby Woo, a lipstick that has never failed me. If you were ever in two minds about purchasing Ruby Woo..here's the proof.
Eeeek..sorry for your wallet :p

The highlighter used is another holy-grail 'theBalm Mary-Lou Manizer'. I've said it before and I'll say it again "If you can afford one highlighter in your lifetime...make it this one!"

I don't know why but everything kept screwing up when I attempted this look. My right eye winged liner was perfection but then the obvious happened. The left one was thick and messy with nothing resembling a flick. I had to take it all off (taking all my eye makeup with it), re-doing it but it still wasn't up to the mark so I made the perfect one thicker. Now both are messed. Hoorah!
Well I hardly ever got over it and then I attempted to put fake lashes on. OMG! It s*cked. I took them off straight away. Ofcorse the glue took all the eyeliner hard work with it. I re-did the eyeliner in a very non-patient way and hence the mess on my eyes. I swear I made mental notes to not attempt fake lashes ever again..well until next time that is!
I then decided to go overboard on mascara to compensate lost lashes and next thing you know is the mascara wand going haywire with one tiny blink. Hello tainted under eyes..
*Cleans that up fast!*
Re-powder the face.
OMG! daylight is running out. I have about 10 minutes to take pictures.
**Starts taking pictures**
My hair look shit! Applies more serum.. still as bushy as ever (I hate you swimming!).
OK. I have to curl them in 5 minutes. Out comes the new Remington Curls Collective and 5 minutes later- bamm! beautiful curls and hair I can finally click. Well I must have done one good deed that day.

*Takes all the pictures in 5 minutes*
And its time to take off all the hard work. Like seriously..no where to go & I don't like to roll on couch with that amount of makeup. Ok. I did go to supermarket and picked up a Pizza too. This makeup with sweatpants..KILLER! Life's good like that!

Of corse a lot of products were used in this look. Here's the full list along with shade names. I hope it's helpful to anyone out there that has similar skin-tone as mine. I'm about NC 32-35 in MAC for reference.

arabic eye makeup for eid

I dedicate this post to my mum..her towering support, her sheer hardwork, her not so pampering ways, her stubbornness, her determination, her dreams for us, her kindness, her empathy, her care, her unwavering positive outlook for life. For me, she has forever been a source of inspiration. When I'm in a difficult situation, I always fall back to "what would mum do" and its always been something along these lines-
Be content with your life. You have more than other people could dream of. You never take for granted the opportunities bestowed upon you. You always have to be kind. You shut up if you don't have anything nice to say. You don't indulge in bitching. You just keep on doing your thing (She pretty much made the introvert that I am today haha!). You recycle, re-use and upcycle stuff..be it anything (food included!). You value things, you value people. You value money. Not everyone has it so make sure you spend it where it counts (and many more weird ones like no fizzy drinks, no junk food). Mind you it was never a lecture. It has always been through her actions. Leading by example!

Satisfaction is a virtue that I'm glad I've inherited from her because she has always taught us that no matter how bad it gets , there is always someone worse than us. So be kind, be gracious, be thankful and always be helpful. In disease and in health, she is my guiding light on how one needs to conduct life. As I wear her clothes, I feel like I'm carrying a lil bit of herself with me, in me. Her support from 14000 km away keeps me sane, humble and content. Thank you mum xx
She always tells me I don't need all this makeup to look pretty. Natural is the best! But I love it mum :p

Well that is all the blabber I could come up for you today! I hope you have a beautiful EID and an amazing time with family. Keep me in your Dua :)
