Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water Review

Count on me to review something after its long gone and discontinued. Well thank the heavens this time it isn't coz I've had this review in my drafts for about 2 years now and Garnier is still going strong with this one. Heck they've just released a new version for combination/oily skin.

I've never used the holy grail of all Micellar waters, the legendary Bioderma Sensibio so I'm not gonna pretend to be a know-all but I can surely compare it against my other makeup removers though.

Garnier Micellar Water Review

Micellar Water seems to be the all new rage but in reality they've been around for ages. French women have been enjoying them for yonks. I'm so glad the drugstore brands have finally joined the bandwagon! Hooray for us cheapos :) They look like water, they feel like water, they don't smell and no irritation either. Magic indeed!

This is my second bottle of Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water so you can trust me on this one. I've repurchased it so there must be something worthwhile.

Micelle are clusters of surfactant molecules that are perfect for dissolving dirt and grime. These molecules have two ends-the hydrophilic one (water loving) and the hydrophobic one (water repelling/oil-loving). These molecules when dispersed in this cleansing water bind with the water and hence have the oil-loving end free to bind with any dirt or grime it comes across. Theoretically, there is no rinsing required after Micellar Water as it traps and dissolves all makeup, dirt & grime.

Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water is a gentle, sensitive-skin friendly, transparent water like makeup remover.  You don't need to shake the bottle before use as there's no separation. I put some on a cotton pad and rub it all over my face. It works everywhere - face, lips, eyes n all - no taste, no itching. Just a good mess-free makeup remover. This takes off all makeup but certainly not in a jiffy.Water proof eye makeup and waterline kohl aren't the easiest to take off.
My usual daily face takes just one cotton pad of Micellar Water to clean but a full special occasion makeup can easily take 3 cotton pads.

Garnier suggests to not follow up with a cleanser after makeup removal but I feel my face slightly sticky after cleansing water, so I do follow it up with a cream or foamy cleanser (mood dependent). You know I have a clean face OCD so it's a must for me to cleanse. That's one job I don't slack at!

I tried Micellar Water to spot clean my makeup brushes and it worked amazingly well. So for the price its actually a pretty rad brush cleaner.

Oh wait! There's another beauty hack. This guy is so amazing at spot cleaning makeup. You know when you're doing cat eye flick and things go out of hand, I put some Micellar Water on ear bud to clean away and it gives me neat canvas again. You'd think any makeup remover could do that? Nops! They leave residue- sometimes oil, sometimes cream. This one leaves nothing behind. I can start from scratch in 5 seconds. Amazing!

What is Micellar water

I just wish this was more heavy duty and better at taking off waterproof mascara and kohl. But I guess for how gentle it is..something must be sacrificed.
Apart from these, I'm generally really happy with this makeup remover. It's not perfect (I think I prefer Forest Essentials Oil based makeup remover for a heavy duty cleanse) but its great for daily use. You cant beat the price either. You could get it for about $10 on special for 400 ml of liquid (200 uses). One bottle easily lasts 6 months on me. Garnier now has another version of it that mattifies skin. I guess its more suitable for Oily/Combination skin in that respect coz baby I'm all about plump hydrated skin.
